This program is not a game in itself. But I think it reasonable to consider solving a cryptogram a sort of game. Therefore it is an aid in playing a game so I am including it here.
This resulted from a challenge on a computer forum that I frequent. Someone posted a cryptogram and challenged everyone to solve it. The instructions were to post our time if we succeeded but not the solution. Also, do not use a cryptogram solver as that would be cheating. I started to work on it a little but quickly got bored with writing down a guess and then erasing and trying again when they proved wrong, over and over.
I did not want to "cheat" but I also did not want to do all the pencil and eraser work that would be required to arrive at the solution. therefore, I wrote this program to be my pencil and eraser. To use it, you first enter the target cryptogram on the first line and the program will take care of the solution line for you. You then make a calculated guess of what some letter represents and tell the program. It does all the rest of the pencil work for you. To remove that guess, simply clear the guess and the program performs all the necessary eraser work. A sample is below.
